“IT’S A MESSAGE”: FAITH TO FLY (Pt 1) | by Lil’ Mel & Lavinia

But those who wait on the LORD
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)

There’s a story about an eagle who thought he was a chicken, it goes a little something like this;

‘There was an orphaned baby eagle who wandered onto a farm. The chickens saw him and brought him to the mother hen, she took him in as her own and took care of him. Living in the midst of the chickens he began to act like a chicken. After a time, from his high perch, a wise owl saw the eagle amongst the chickens and was concerned. He got him alone and said, “why are you behaving like a chicken, do you not know that you are an eagle?” Alarmed and annoyed the eagle responded, “how dare you, this is my family and I am one of them, I am a chicken”. The wise owl tried to make him understand but the eagle was adamant and refused to listen.
Over the process of time the eagle continued to grow amongst the chickens. As he got older he, and they, began to notice that he was becoming much bigger than them. He looked different than them and felt different than them, yet he carried on amongst the chickens (but felt miserable). When the eagle had reached an age of understanding the wise owl came to him again and said, “why are you still here amongst the chickens, do you not know that you are an eagle?”. This time the eagle didn’t argue but he was confused and didn’t know what he must do so the wise owl said, “you need to climb up to where I am, lift up your wings, allow the wind to come underneath you and then you’ll understand who you are!”‘

Like the eagle in the story, sometimes we have to come out of our comfort zone to find out what we’re really made of; it forces us to lean on God more, depend on Him and not ourselves. In doing so we find out even more about ourselves as we trust an all-knowing God with our unknown future.

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Romans 8:16-18 (NKJV)

We need to know we’re loved and worthy, not because of what we accomplish but because of who we are, heirs of Christ. It is only in Christ that we find out who we are and what we’re living for. We need to look up and not across, around, behind or in front.

In Christ you are no longer a chicken, so spread your wings and fly!
