All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 11: 27-29
We are always striving to know God more, get the mind of God, have the heart of God for people. But Jesus states that no one knows the Father except the Son, and the Holy Spirit that He wills to reveal Him. I believe this says to us that firstly Jesus has the authority to show us the Father, to bridge the gap that we can know Him that He is our gateway, our guide, our leader, to Him we must look. And, we are enabled to follow Him by the power of the Holy Spirit who specifically allows us to see what He would reveal.
Jesus also gives us a call to action that we should take up His yoke and learn from Him for in this we will find rest for our souls. He advises that His yoke is easy and His burden light. Yet we often struggle with this as we (being of flesh) try to interject with our own opinions, philosophies, understandings and wisdom but then are confused when we feel laboured and heavy ladened…we haven’t wholly learnt and followed and must come back to Christ for our direction.
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:….
Matthew 7: 24-27
We learn by the word, through hearing, reading, studying, EATING the word of God. But hand in hand with the learning/hearing is also obedience to DO the word. By being continually obedient to what the Holy Spirit would reveal to us through the word and asking for His strength, increased faith and humility to be like the wise man and just follow, rather than be like the foolish man who heard but didn’t obey.
Matthew 12:35-37 says “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgement. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
So my prayer today is to have the heart of the psalmist and say “Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.” Psalm 119:11
We are accountable to what we know and if we claim to have the Spirit of God in us we must not remain ignorant to the full entirety of His word but ask
